Ideas are core to any design project this project started with rapid sketching of concepts.

Market research was undertaken in the areas of cost forecasting, consumer segmentation and as shown in the illustrated value proposition model, competing products.

Developing and refining concepts to meet the design brief.

Quick mockups are an effective method of exploring the 3D form of a design. In this project ergonomics were studied by using an enlarged model of an ear as the base for clay models.

Using Rhino 3D to generate sketch CAD surface models.

Three separate concepts have gone thorough to the CAD sketch model phase. Again here a user centred approach is taken, using a 3D head to model around.

A detailed surface model of the chosen design being developed using Rhino 3D.

A CAD visualisation / rendering of the right 'control' unit. Modelled in Rhino 3D and rendered using 3D Studio Max and the Mental Ray renderer. This control unit can be used independently to play mono music or as a hands free unit for a mobile phone.

Rapid prototype models produced using an Invision 3D printer, no finish was applied to the models as they were used purely to demonstrate the possible scale of the product. The CAD development made use of Rhino 3D's advanced STL and mesh editing capabilities.

Jabra

A short project from Jabra with the brief to design a concept solution for their new technology; enabling totally wireless headphones that can either be used in a stereo mode, with both headphones, or a mono mode, one headphone, as mobile handsfree device. The award winning design concept features an innovative Shape Memory Metal Alloy (SMMA) frame that moulds to fit the user whilst remembering its original form.

This design developed from rapid concept generation and clay modelling, with a focus on human centred design. The final presentation included photorealistic CAD visualisations from 3D Studio Max with models developed in Rhino 3D. To communicate the scale and feel of the product rapid prototypes were produced using an Invision 3D printer.

From extensive experience in consumer electronics design a visionary product was developed; recognised by an award from Jabra and achieving a first class distinction from Loughborough University.
